Software Manager
Role Summary
Lead the software team responsible for calibration, characterization, and control software for QuantWare's superconducting quantum processing units (QPUs). Own the calibration software roadmap, long-term architecture, and delivery for production-grade tooling used in hardware development, manufacturing, and deployment.
The role manages and grows a multidisciplinary team of senior software engineers and quantum device specialists, and coordinates technical integration with internal hardware teams and external partners.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 5+ years of professional software leadership experience, including architecting and delivering production-grade software.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of roadmap, team growth, architecture, and cross-team integration:
- Own and project-manage the calibration software roadmap; set milestones and report progress.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of senior software and domain specialists.
- Establish production-grade engineering practices, testing frameworks, and contribution models.
- Define and drive long-term software architecture and clean hardware abstraction layers.
- Coordinate technical collaboration, integration, and data hand-offs with third parties and internal teams.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience; plus items considered advantageous.
- Must-have: 5+ years of professional software leadership with a track record of delivering and maintaining production software.
- Must-have: Proven experience in engineering management: recruiting, mentoring, and retaining senior engineers and domain specialists.
- Must-have: Strong technical proficiency in the Python ecosystem and modern software architecture principles.
- Must-have: Experience designing modular package structures, hardware abstraction layers, and interfacing with third-party systems.
- Must-have: Excellent cross-functional communication and ability to collaborate with scientific domain experts.
- Nice-to-have: Experience interfacing with physical hardware, instrumentation, or complex scientific systems.
- Nice-to-have: Domain experience with superconducting quantum computing hardware or closely related fields.
