Software Engineer, ML for EDA
ChipAgentsJob Title
Software Engineer, ML for EDA
Role Summary
Build production software that turns ML research for electronic design automation (EDA) into reliable, deployable systems used in the ChipAgents platform and in customer design environments.
Work with ML researchers, hardware experts, and customer engineering teams to integrate with EDA tools and compute infrastructure, build data pipelines and services, and make deployments repeatable across customers. Base salary range: $150,000β$350,000 per year (base).
Experience Level
Mid-level. No explicit years-of-experience requirement stated.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on productionizing ML for chip design and supporting deployments for customers.
- Implement and maintain production software that operationalizes ML research within the ChipAgents platform.
- Integrate with EDA tools, flow scripts, libraries, and compute infrastructure across diverse design environments.
- Build data pipelines and tooling to convert EDA tool runs into training and evaluation datasets.
- Deploy, support, and operate software in customer and enterprise environments, including on-premises and restricted-network setups.
- Create reusable deployment tooling, adapters, and documentation to reduce repeated integration effort.
- Own reliability and performance of research and customer-facing systems.
- Capture customer feedback, failure cases, and feature requests for research and product teams.
- Write well-architected, maintainable production code.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and relevant experience for successful candidates, followed by desirable extras.
Must-have:
- Strong software engineering skills in Python and experience building production systems on Linux.
- Familiarity with the digital design flow (synthesis, place-and-route, timing and power analysis) and the EDA tools used to run it.
- Working knowledge of machine learning systems: training, evaluation, and deployment concepts.
- Experience deploying software into customer or enterprise environments, including compute farms (LSF, Slurm), containers, and restricted networks.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customer engineering teams and researchers.
- Self-directed, with strong ownership and focus on customer and business outcomes.
Nice-to-have:
- Hands-on experience with commercial EDA tools, including Tcl scripting.
- Experience working as an engineer at an EDA vendor or semiconductor company.
- Familiarity with EDA data formats such as Verilog, Liberty, LEF/DEF, SDC, and SPEF.
- Experience with open-source EDA tools.
- Experience with LLMs or agent systems.
- MLOps experience with model packaging, versioning, and monitoring.
