Software Engineer, AI Co-design
Meta PlatformsJob Title
Software Engineer, AI Co-design
Role Summary
Join Reality Labs Silicon to develop software and algorithms that co-design AI models, hardware acceleration, and systems for AR/VR devices. Work across research and engineering to enable compute- and power-efficient training and on-device inference for vision and language models used in edge and mixed-reality products.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Mid-Career). Years of experience: not specified.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include algorithm-hardware co-design, model optimization, and system-level evaluation for ML acceleration.
- Identify and solve multi-discipline ML-acceleration problems spanning algorithms, network design, hardware architecture, and AR/VR use cases.
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams and research scientists to co-design solutions across the stack.
- Invent and prototype ML accelerator and system architecture concepts and integrate them into software and algorithms.
- Develop model-compression and scalability techniques (numerics, pruning, distillation, etc.).
- Optimize models on hardware accelerators to meet real-time latency and power constraints.
- Define use cases, create benchmarks and evaluation methodology, and perform data-driven trade-off analysis.
- Communicate recommendations to cross-functional partners and contribute to publications and patents.
Requirements
Summary of required and preferred qualifications.
- Must-have: Experience developing AI-system infrastructure, AI algorithms, or AI hardware acceleration using C/C++ or Python.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with on-device algorithms, hardware-aware ML models, or optimizing ML compilers for accelerators.
- Nice-to-have: Experience training or deploying large-scale AI models (computer vision and/or LLMs) and using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar toolsets.
- Nice-to-have: Experience evaluating system/algorithm trade-offs (performance, power, latency) and architecting ML hardware accelerators and systems.
- Nice-to-have: Demonstrated research or engineering impact (internships, work experience, open-source contributions, publications, patents).
- Nice-to-have: Experience integrating AI tools to redesign workflows and drive measurable impact.
- Nice-to-have: Experience working cross-functionally and applying responsible, ethical AI practices.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience is also referenced as relevant.
