Software Engineer, Chip Manufacturing

Role Summary

Responsible for building the software platform that runs chip fabrication: process definitions, equipment control, wafer tracking, telemetry ingestion, and process analytics. The role sits on the core Software team and works closely with process and hardware engineers to turn research into production-capable manufacturing systems.

Employment will be contingent on the applicant's ability to comply with U.S. export control regulations.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typical experience range: 3–7 years of professional software engineering work (guideline).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include owning major components of the fabrication software stack and delivering reliable, production-ready systems for manufacturing engineers.

  • Own and maintain core parts of the software platform that runs chip fabrication.
  • Design systems to model tools, recipes, wafers, masks, and process runs.
  • Build interfaces for equipment control and real-time fab monitoring.
  • Ingest, process, and analyze high-frequency telemetry, video, logs, and run data.
  • Develop metrology, process-analysis, and SPC tools to support engineering decisions.
  • Create a complete history for every wafer linking recipes, equipment state, sensor data, and results.
  • Partner directly with process and hardware engineers to productionize process research.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications for successful execution of the role.

Must-have:
  • Proven software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems.
  • Full-stack capability across frontend, backend, databases, and system design.
  • Ability to model complex physical processes and implement reliable software abstractions.
  • Strong product instincts and experience working directly with domain engineers.
  • Can read, write, debug, and reason about code independently; effective use of AI coding tools as augmentation.
  • Strong technical communication and a high degree of ownership.
Nice-to-have:
  • Experience building MES, laboratory automation, or software that coordinates complex physical workflows.
  • Early-stage startup or founding engineer / CTO experience.
  • Background with hardware, embedded systems, robotics, or other physical systems.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment, process control, or fab operations.
  • Hands-on experience with telemetry, time-series data, industrial controls, or real-time systems.
