Software Engineer, OS
Meta PlatformsJob Title
Software Engineer, OS
Role Summary
Join Reality Labs at Meta to design and implement system and embedded software for XR hardware. The role focuses on kernel and systems-level components, device drivers, hardware bring-up, power/performance optimization, and cross-team integration.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early-career — minimum 2+ years of relevant software engineering experience in device driver development, embedded systems, or operating systems.
Responsibilities
Work across the software stack to enable reliable, high-performance device operation and integration with hardware.
- Design and implement components across the system: kernel, synchronization, memory management, I/O, persistence, and security.
- Design and implement drivers and services optimized for constrained environments and high-bandwidth, low-latency operation.
- Own work streams for hardware bring-up, peripheral drivers, silicon integration, and power/performance management.
- Debug complex, multi-component system issues spanning kernel to application.
- Profile and optimize performance across the full software stack.
- Lead device bring-up, debugging, and performance tuning across hardware/firmware/software teams.
- Integrate components from partner teams into the unified product code base and drive their development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Preferred skills listed as nice-to-have.
- Experience in device driver development, embedded systems, or operating systems.
- Experience working on large-scale C/C++ code bases and systems software.
- Familiarity with software development processes: source control, bug tracking, and design documentation.
- Hardware bring-up experience with interfaces such as ADC, GPIO, SPI, I2C.
- Experience in one or more of: SoC BSP/Board Support Package, Android OS, RTOS/Zephyr, bootloader, power management, Linux, graphics/display drivers, MCU.
- Proven ability to develop, debug, and ship software products that span platforms and tools.
- Nice-to-have: experience with Qualcomm SoC solutions, AI tooling integration, and responsible AI practices.
- Nice-to-have: demonstrated cross-functional collaboration and experience in two or more deep systems areas (BSP, kernel, HAL, bootloader, power, graphics, MCU).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field — or equivalent practical experience.
