Job Title

Senior Backend Software Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Fab Software team to design and build backend systems that control and monitor chip manufacturing equipment. You will develop APIs, data models, and integrations between web applications and physical hardware to enable real-time operations and process orchestration.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on reliability, performance, and system architecture for mission-critical manufacturing systems.

Experience Level

Senior-level β€” role explicitly described as Senior; expects significant experience leading complex production systems.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Architect and implement high-performance backend APIs and services (Go, Rust, gRPC).
  • Design data models and system components for recipes, runs, tools, wafers, and jobs.
  • Integrate web applications with hardware and embedded systems for real-time control and monitoring.
  • Ensure reliability, observability, and performance; own failure recovery and on-call processes.
  • Drive long-term system architecture and technical direction to support manufacturing and yield goals.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications:

  • Strong backend systems experience with Go, Rust, and/or gRPC.
  • Proven track record delivering complex, business-critical production systems end-to-end.
  • Deep knowledge of systems fundamentals: concurrency, networking, and databases.
  • Experience owning systems in production, including troubleshooting, failure recovery, and on-call support.
  • Demonstrated leadership, clear communication, and reliable follow-through.
  • Ability to comply with U.S. export control restrictions applicable to the role.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with hardware or embedded systems and integrating software with physical devices.
  • Deep Postgres or database internals and performance tuning experience.
  • Interest or experience in networking, security, or distributed systems.
  • Experience building home labs or personal infrastructure projects.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
