Software Engineer, AI Platform

Role Summary

Design and build the AI platform that supports fab2’s engineering workflows and fab operations. The role owns infrastructure and agent systems that enable teams to use AI across cloud and on-prem compute.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing platform infrastructure, agent systems, and tooling that turn engineering knowledge into reusable capabilities.

  • Build infrastructure for running AI models across cloud providers and on-prem compute.
  • Develop agents, shared skills, MCP servers, and sandboxed execution environments.
  • Create evals and benchmarks to measure agent and model performance.
  • Translate engineering knowledge and repeatable workflows into shared AI tools.
  • Develop AI systems for automated experimentation, defect detection, engineering analysis, and fab operations.
  • Explore systems that analyze results, propose next actions, and eventually interact with physical equipment.
  • Help define how AI is adopted and integrated across the company.

Requirements

Core qualifications and desirable experience.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and track record of shipping production systems.
  • Comfortable working across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and data domains.
  • Effective with AI coding tools while able to read, write, debug, and reason about code independently.
  • Strong product instincts and ability to turn ambiguous problems into working systems.
  • Clear technical communication and a high degree of ownership.

Nice-to-have

  • Early-stage startup experience (founding engineer, CTO, or similar).
  • Experience building AI agents, developer tools, evals, or ML infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with GPU or on-prem compute infrastructure.
  • Exposure to robotics, hardware, scientific computing, or automated experimentation.
  • Experience building software for regulated environments.
