Senior Quantum R&D Engineer – Processor Development
QuantWareJob Title
Senior Quantum R&D Engineer – Processor Development
Role Summary
Join the Quantum Processor team to design, validate and iterate on superconducting quantum processor components (inter-qubit couplers, readout architectures) and integrate improvements into large-scale QPUs. The role spans design, simulation, cryogenic measurement, data-driven iteration and collaboration with fabrication and test teams.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years of hands-on experience in multi-qubit superconducting quantum device development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of component development from concept to measured validation and iteration:
- Conceive, model and layout next-generation superconducting processor architectures and custom test vehicles.
- Design and perform cryogenic measurements to validate device performance and close the design-measurement loop.
- Take end-to-end ownership of device/component development: design, simulation, experiment, analysis and iteration.
- Develop and maintain code to automate design, simulation and measurement workflows.
- Collaborate closely with design, fabrication and measurement teams to enable rapid design-to-test cycles.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of core qualifications and useful extras.
- Must-have: 5+ years of hands-on experience in multi-qubit superconducting quantum device development.
- Must-have: Deep understanding of circuit QED (cQED), quantum microwave circuits and superconducting qubits.
- Must-have: Extensive experience in design and cryogenic measurement of superconducting qubit circuits and test vehicles.
- Must-have: Proficiency in Python and experience with software tools for quantum design and experiments (examples: HFSS, COMSOL, pyEPR, scqubits, Quantum Metal, KLayout).
- Must-have: Strong ownership, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Nice-to-have: Prior experience integrating component designs into larger-scale processor architectures or working closely with fabrication teams.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
