Job Title

Senior Optomechanical Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Precision Team at fab2 to design, assemble, test, and debug precision optomechanical and electromechanical systems used in lithography, metrology and motion control. The role focuses on rapid prototyping and maturing optical systems toward production-level performance.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 6+ years of industry experience in electromechanical or optics system design and analysis.

Responsibilities

The core responsibility is to deliver working optical and electromechanical systems through iterative design, build, and test cycles.

  • Design, prototype, and develop precision electro-mechanical and optical components and systems.
  • Assemble, test, debug, and iterate on new systems to meet performance targets.
  • Integrate off-the-shelf products such as motion stages and metrology equipment into system designs.
  • Perform detailed analysis and simulations (mechanical and optical) to validate designs and meet constraints.
  • Work with suppliers to source components and materials and support production handoff.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 6+ years industry experience in electromechanical or optical system design and analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in precision machine design fundamentals (exact-constraint design, kinematic couplings, flexures, error budgeting, structural loops, tolerance analysis).
  • Proven ability to rapidly prototype complex systems and advance them toward production; portfolio of built systems is expected.
  • Experience with Mechanical 3D CAD tools.
  • Experience designing and simulating optical systems (Zemax preferred).

Nice-to-have:

  • Formal training in precision engineering.
  • Experience at an early-stage startup.
  • Familiarity with firmware, controls, or electrical engineering.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
