Senior Electrical Design Engineer
fab2Job Title
Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer owns electrical hardware design for fab2's chip fabrication machines end-to-end, from requirements and schematic capture through PCB layout, bring-up, testing, and productionization. You will design and deliver reliable, testable electrical systems used in lithography, deposition, vacuum, and motion-control equipment.
Work is hands-on and cross-functional; successful candidates iterate prototypes to production. Employment is contingent on the ability to comply with U.S. export control requirements.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role is senior in scope (typically 7+ years of relevant hardware design experience or equivalent demonstrated capability).
Responsibilities
Deliver and iterate electrical systems for precision fabrication tools, taking designs from concept to production and documentation.
- Lead clean-sheet design of PCBAs and electrical subsystems, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection.
- Prototype, bring up, debug, and validate circuits using hands-on lab techniques and test equipment.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, and process teams to define system requirements and integration plans.
- Perform simulations and analysis to evaluate architectures and trade-offs between off-the-shelf and custom solutions.
- Drive designs through small-scale production and produce assembly/test documentation for the production team.
Requirements
Required technical skills and experience to perform the role.
Must-have:
- Proven experience owning electrical hardware projects end-to-end, taking systems from concept to production.
- Proficiency in analog and digital circuit design and mixed-signal systems; hands-on testing with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and lab equipment.
- Experience with PCB design and simulation tools (Altium, KiCad, LTSpice).
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, maker-style engineering environment and take broad ownership of electrical systems.
Nice-to-have:
- High-speed digital or low-noise analog front-end design experience.
- Experience with RF plasmas, pulsed lasers, or semiconductor processing equipment.
- Design and implementation of digitally controlled switching power supplies or novel power-supply architectures.
- Control theory knowledge (control loop design, stability analysis) or low-voltage DC inverter design experience.
- FPGA or firmware development experience; advanced SMT precision rework skills.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
