Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for managing and executing the physical design flow for dies that comprise the company's A-0 and A-1 systems. Work includes deciding which work is performed in-house versus outsourced, managing external vendors, and integrating outsourced work into the internal flow.

Experience Level

Mid-level engineering role. The posting does not specify exact years of experience; candidates are expected to have hands-on physical design experience on advanced-node tapeouts.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include delivering physical design blocks, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors, and ensuring successful tapeouts.

  • Manage and execute the physical design process for dies in A-0 and A-1 systems.
  • Decide which tasks are performed in-house versus outsourced; manage and coordinate outsourced vendors.
  • Integrate outsourced deliverables into the in-house physical design flow and verification.
  • Identify PPA (performance, power, area) limiters from RTL and coordinate with microarchitects to implement RTL changes.
  • Participate in tapeout planning, reviews, and debug of physical-design-related issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and practical skills required for the role, followed by desirable qualifications.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with the physical design process for at least one block in multiple advanced-node tapeouts.
  • Must-have: Experience with both in-house and outsourced physical design flows and vendor coordination.
  • Must-have: Ability to interpret RTL to identify PPA limiters and coordinate RTL changes with microarchitects.
  • Nice-to-have: Physical-design experience for multi-die / multi-chiplet / MCM designs.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with reticle-max or near-reticle-max designs.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with very high power-density chips and AI-focused designs.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with analog and mixed-signal blocks and macros in the physical design flow.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
