Job Title

Manufacturing Software Lead

Role Summary

Lead ownership of the software systems used to manufacture, test, calibrate, and provision fab2's semiconductor equipment. You will architect and implement firmware and host software for device assembly, calibration, end-of-line test, and production tooling while working closely with manufacturing engineers.

This role sits on the tool software team responsible for Linux control software and microcontroller firmware for sequencing, interlocks, operator UIs, diagnostics, and real-time firmware. Any offer will be contingent on the applicant's ability to comply with U.S. export controls.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role expects experienced engineers; the posting requests 5+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include ownership, design, and hands-on implementation of manufacturing software and test systems:

  • Own manufacturing software across in-house hardware, from components (MFCs, pumps, valves) through assembled processing tools.
  • Design and build automated test and calibration systems: fixtures, test firmware, and host-side test software.
  • Implement production software and firmware test modes, calibration/characterization routines, provisioning and flashing tools, and test-station applications.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers on test-station design and deployment.
  • Uphold code quality and testing standards through code review and feedback.
  • Hire, mentor, and grow engineering team members supporting manufacturing software.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 5+ years developing software for manufacture or test of physical products (test automation, calibration, end-of-line test, production tooling).
  • Proficiency in C and Python; experience implementing firmware and host-side tooling.
  • Working knowledge of electronics and instrumentation, including reading schematics and using bench test equipment.
  • Experience with production data systems: traceability, test databases, and manufacturing data analysis.
  • Experience taking features from prototype to production scale and maintaining production systems.

Nice-to-have:

  • Background in semiconductor equipment, fluid/gas handling, vacuum systems, or scientific instrumentation.
  • Experience testing or calibrating mass flow controllers, pumps, pressure/temperature sensors, or precision actuators.
  • MES integration experience or building lightweight MES functionality.
  • Familiarity with FMEA, SPC, or other quality and reliability practices.
  • Experience with Rust.

Education Requirements

BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
