Senior Principal ASIC Implementation Engineer
BAE SystemsJob Title
Senior Principal ASIC Implementation Engineer
Role Summary
Senior ASIC implementation engineer on a hybrid team based in Manassas, VA, responsible for delivering advanced ASIC hardware from concept through deployment for aerospace and defense applications. The role focuses on physical implementation, timing closure, layout verification, and scripting for automation within ASIC flows.
Work involves a mix of collaborative onsite activities and remote independent engineering; limited travel (<10%). U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance are required.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum 8+ years industry experience in ASIC development is required; 14+ years preferred for senior/principal responsibilities and team leadership.
Responsibilities
Implement and qualify ASIC designs for aerospace and defense systems, focusing on physical design and post-layout verification and supporting deployment.
- Perform physical design, placement, routing and layout verification (DRC/LVS).
- Perform static timing analysis and timing closure activities.
- Generate and validate EMIR views and custom timing libraries.
- Develop and maintain synthesis constraints, DFT insertion flows, and related implementation deliverables.
- Write and maintain automation scripts and tool flows (TCL, Perl, or Python) for EDA tools.
- Work with EDA tools and flows to support implementation (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence).
- Support post-silicon debug and bring-up activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and, when needed, lead design efforts or mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and qualifications, followed by notable preferred skills.
- Must-have: 8+ years industry experience in ASIC development with demonstrated ASIC implementation experience (physical design, static timing analysis, EMIR, layout DRC/LVS).
- Must-have: Proficiency scripting in TCL and Perl or Python and working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments.
- Must-have: Experience with revision control systems (git, CVS, ClearCase, Perforce, etc.).
- Must-have: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Must-have: Ability to work in a hybrid on-site/remote model; willingness to travel <10%.
- Nice-to-have: Experience leading full design teams and strong written/oral communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with formal verification, synthesis, constraints management, DFT insertion, and EDA flows (Synopsys, Cadence).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with advanced process nodes (<= 5nm), radiation-hardened design/process, creation of custom timing libraries and EMIR views, and post-silicon debug/test.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Preferred: Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
