MCU Embedded Software Architect & Technical Lead

Role Summary

Lead architecture, requirements and technical direction for embedded software on Renesas 16-/32-bit MCUs and associated connectivity/IoT products. Work with product, marketing, customers and global engineering teams to produce scalable, reusable firmware, BSPs and middleware from PRD through verification and release.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across embedded software requirements, architecture, implementation and verification for MCU products.

• Define software requirements and produce PRDs, architecture and design documents; review design artifacts.
• Lead design and development of BSPs, device drivers, RTOS integration, middleware, connectivity stacks and sample applications.
• Drive traceability of market/customer requirements to architecture, implementation and test artifacts using tools like Jira.
• Coordinate and lead technical discussions with internal teams, partners and customers to resolve technical issues and align requirements.
• Perform design reviews and technical decisions focused on quality, extensibility, reusability and maintainability.
• Promote CI/CD, test automation and standardized development processes to improve efficiency and quality.
• Improve developer and customer software experience; enable adoption of architectures and best practices across teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

• Must-have: Embedded C development experience.
• BSP, device driver, RTOS or middleware development experience for MCU/SoC platforms.
• Practical experience in software requirements definition, specification/architecture design and design reviews.
• Experience in debugging, root-cause analysis and driving quality improvements.
• Strong communication skills for working with domestic and international stakeholders.
• Experience with technical documentation, progress and issue management, and release activities.
• Ability to learn and apply new technologies autonomously.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with FreeRTOS/AzureRTOS/Zephyr, connectivity stacks (Ethernet/Wi‑Fi/TCP‑IP/MQTT/TLS), bootloaders, startup optimization, multi‑OS designs, automotive/edge/industrial domains, Python/Shell for CI/CD and test automation, small-team technical leadership, or AI-assisted code/review/testing tools.
