Fab Software Engineering Intern — Winter
Role Summary
Intern on the Fab software team building full-stack applications, tools, and infrastructure for a software-defined semiconductor fabrication environment. Work covers control of fabrication equipment, data analysis for process development, and developer-facing tooling.
Internship begins in January with a preferred 4–8 month commitment. A portfolio (e.g., GitHub) demonstrating projects is required.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship suitable for current students or early-career engineers; preferred 4–8 months commitment.
Responsibilities
Deliver software that helps engineers develop and operate the fab; iterate rapidly from prototype to tested features.
- Develop frontend and backend data-driven applications to operate and monitor fab workflows.
- Build software for sequencing and controlling fabrication equipment.
- Implement data-processing and analysis pipelines to support process development.
- Collaborate with engineers to design tools and infrastructure and ship production-ready features quickly.
Requirements
Core technical must-haves and relevant experience.
- Strong programming skills in Rust and Go, or TypeScript with a strong desire to learn Rust/Go.
- Solid understanding of systems fundamentals: memory, performance, and concurrency.
- Experience building non-trivial software projects from scratch (personal, academic, or professional).
- Interest in one or more areas: databases, visualization, or data processing pipelines.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with interactive design or CAD tools (Figma, Blender, KiCad) or scientific computing environments.
- Familiarity with schema evolution, database migrations, or serialization formats (e.g., Protobuf).
- Understanding of collaborative/distributed systems (CRDTs, OT, WebSockets).
- Exposure to advanced 2D/3D visualization, simulation, or novel user interfaces.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated practical experience in software engineering.
