Job Title

Software Engineer — Semiconductor Digital Twin

Role Summary

Develop high-performance scientific and simulation software for semiconductor process and device modeling as part of the Calibre R&D team. Work focuses on numerical solvers, computational geometry, and performance optimization to enable large-scale, high-fidelity simulations for advanced semiconductor nodes and packaging.

Collaborate with product and research teams to design, implement, and validate scalable algorithms and software that meet production throughput and accuracy requirements in a hybrid work environment.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role targets candidates with advanced research or industry experience in scientific computing and high-performance software; specific years of experience are not required in the posting.

Responsibilities

Primary technical and team responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement numerical algorithms and solvers (FEM/FD/FVM/BEM, linear/PDE/eigen solvers) for semiconductor simulation.
  • Develop and optimize high-performance code for distributed and GPU-accelerated environments (MPI, CUDA).
  • Integrate computational-geometry and simulation components into the Calibre toolchain.
  • Profile and tune performance for high-throughput production workloads.
  • Apply AI/ML techniques where appropriate to accelerate solution workflows.
  • Estimate development tasks, produce reliable delivery plans, and meet project schedules.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and domain experts to validate and deploy features.

Requirements

Core technical skills and attributes required or strongly expected.

  • Proven software development experience in C/C++ and Python; familiarity with modern development workflows.
  • Experience with GPU programming and CUDA-based optimization.
  • Experience with distributed-memory programming and MPI.
  • Strong background in numerical methods for PDEs, linear algebra, and computational geometry.
  • Practical experience with performance profiling, parallelism (multi-threading), and scaling large simulations.
  • Strong problem-solving, task estimation, and collaboration skills.
  • Nice-to-have: experience applying AI/ML to scientific computing and basic semiconductor process or device knowledge.

Education Requirements

PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering is preferred; alternatively MS plus 5+ years of research or industry experience. Relevant fields include Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or other technical disciplines. Equivalent practical experience is accepted as described.
