Electrical Engineering Intern - Winter
Role Summary
Winter internship (starts in January) on fab2's hardware engineering team building lithography systems, deposition tools, vacuum chambers, motion control, plasma etch systems, and related equipment for chip fabrication.
This is a hands-on role: you'll prototype, test, iterate, and productionize electrical and embedded systems alongside mechanical, software, and process engineers. Note: offers are contingent on compliance with U.S. export controls.
Experience Level
Internship. Preferred commitment: 4–8 months starting in January. Suitable for current undergraduates or graduate students in engineering.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, integration, and validation of electrical systems for fabrication equipment.
- Design PCBAs and electrical systems: schematic capture, PCB layout, bring-up, testing, integration, and documentation.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, and process teams to gather requirements and define targets when requirements are ambiguous.
- Investigate and simulate design approaches; evaluate trade-offs between off-the-shelf components and custom solutions.
- Prototype rapidly, iterate based on test results, and productionize working solutions.
- Deliver clear documentation and test procedures for built systems.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, practical experience, and application materials.
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering: experience with KiCad or Altium, microcontrollers, embedded systems, and digital circuits.
- Hands-on prototyping experience and ability to iterate quickly through design cycles.
- Ability to learn quickly, troubleshoot complex technical problems, and perform independent investigations.
- Portfolio required: provide examples of projects or shipped systems demonstrating practical experience.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with semiconductor processing (ALD, CVD, PVD, photolithography).
- Experience with electromechanical assembly design and analysis from coursework, internships, or personal projects.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering.
