Electrical Engineering Intern, High-Frequency Power Electronics (Winter)

Role Summary

Hands-on RF/power electronics internship responsible for designing compact RF power systems from requirements through prototype and production. Work on small, fast semiconductor plasma systems and collaborate with engineers and scientists across hardware, firmware, and manufacturing.

Interns will own system-level designs and execute rapid design-test-build cycles; a portfolio of built projects or shipped systems is required.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Ideal for current students or recent graduates; preferred commitment is 4–8 months starting in January.

Responsibilities

Deliver end-to-end RF power hardware and support system integration:

  • Design complete RF power systems: architecture, schematics, and PCB/layout.
  • Develop and validate RF power diagnostics and metrology.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to gather and refine system requirements.
  • Specify firmware requirements to support hardware functionality.
  • Source components, document designs, and lead manufacturing/prototyping efforts.
  • Create cable harnesses and associated documentation; support fabrication and assembly.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Hands-on experience building RF systems and rapid prototyping/testing.
  • RF resonant power amplifier design at the 100s-of-watts scale.
  • Design of RF power measurement sensors and accurate power metrology.
  • Cable-harness design, documentation, and fabrication experience.
  • Ability to move quickly through iterative design cycles and own projects end-to-end.
  • Portfolio demonstrating personal projects or prior internships that shipped medium-to-high complexity systems.
  • Willingness/ability to comply with U.S. export controls; offers contingent on compliance.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with plasma systems.
  • Systems engineering and integration experience.

Education Requirements

Preferred: an advanced degree (e.g., MS or PhD) in power electronics or a related field is listed as a nice-to-have. No explicit minimum degree requirement stated; compensation and placement consider education and experience.
