Role Summary

Develop compact RF power systems from requirements through production, owning complete subsystems while collaborating with hardware engineers and scientists to enable small, fast semiconductor plasma equipment. The internship starts in May or June; preferred commitment is 4–8 months.

Paid hourly; annualized equivalent compensation range provided. Position is based in Austin, TX with lab/offices in other locations.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Suitable for students or early-career engineers with hands-on RF/power electronics project experience and a portfolio of built work.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include taking RF power systems from architecture to production and supporting diagnostics and manufacturing.

  • Design complete RF power systems: architecture, schematics, and layout
  • Design RF resonant power amplifiers in the hundreds-of-watts range
  • Design RF power measurement sensors and diagnostics
  • Prototype, test, and iterate hardware rapidly
  • Design, document, and fabricate cable harnesses
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to gather system and firmware requirements
  • Source components and lead manufacturing efforts

Requirements

Must-have skills and practical experience; a portfolio is required.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience building RF systems and prototypes
  • Experience with RF resonant power amplifier design (hundreds of watts)
  • RF power measurement and sensor design experience
  • Practical prototyping, testing, and debugging skills
  • Cable harness design, documentation, and fabrication experience
  • Portfolio of projects demonstrating medium-to-high complexity system work
  • Availability to start in May or June and commit ~4–8 months
  • Willingness and ability to comply with U.S. export-control requirements (employment contingent on compliance)
  • Nice-to-have: Plasma systems experience
  • Systems engineering and integration experience

Education Requirements
