Device Metrology Tool Development Lead
Role Summary
Lead the technical and programmatic delivery of an R&D project to develop scalable metrology methods and automated tooling for high-throughput screening of quantum devices. Balance hands-on technical guidance with project leadership to take the tool from concept through deployment.
Experience Level
Senior — 4+ years in roles such as project lead, systems engineer, technical program manager, or lead engineer in deep‑tech (quantum, semiconductor metrology, aerospace, or complex hardware systems).
Responsibilities
Coordinate technical execution, set priorities, and manage risks across a cross‑functional R&D team focused on device metrology tooling.
- Identify and manage the project critical path; prioritize and sequence tasks by impact and dependencies.
- Provide technical oversight and system‑level trade‑offs across design, fabrication, and measurement domains.
- Evaluate experimental strategies and validate measurement outcomes with the team.
- Lead day‑to‑day technical execution of the project team and coordinate cross‑functional collaborators.
- Identify capability gaps and support hiring or team growth to meet milestones.
- Anticipate technical risks, plan contingencies, and adapt strategies as results emerge.
- Serve as primary technical interface for external development partners and collaborators.
Requirements
Must-have technical and leadership qualifications required to execute and deliver a complex metrology tooling project.
- Proven project leadership in deep‑tech: experience as a project lead, systems engineer, TPM, or lead engineer coordinating technical teams and schedules.
- Strong understanding of the R&D lifecycle (design → produce → measure) and experience integrating across those stages.
- Familiarity with chip characterization and measurement workflows; exposure to RF/microwave engineering or cryogenic measurement systems.
- Ability to synthesize inputs from multiple engineering and scientific domains and make system‑level decisions.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity, making authoritative decisions, and focusing teams on milestone‑driven outcomes.
- Clear, concise communicator able to represent technical tradeoffs to internal and external stakeholders.
- Nice-to-have: hands-on experimental measurement experience, prior work on semiconductor metrology tooling, or direct quantum hardware experience.
Education Requirements
Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
