Automation Software Engineering Intern - Summer
Role Summary
Summer internship (starts May or June) on an integrated engineering team building semiconductor fabrication equipment. The role focuses on automation and robotics software to scale and accelerate fabrication processes and improve robot efficiency.
Interns are given significant ownership on interdisciplinary projects and are expected to deliver tested software and simulations within short iteration cycles (days to weeks).
Experience Level
Internship / Entry-level. Intended for current undergraduate students or recent graduates; preferred commitment 4–8 months.
Responsibilities
Primary tasks for the intern:
- Develop real-time applications on Linux for controlling semiconductor fabrication equipment, primarily using Rust, C, and C++.
- Design and implement algorithms and simulations for robotic control systems, including path planning and trajectory control.
- Integrate software with motor controllers and test on hardware; iterate quickly to validate solutions.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary engineering teams and document designs and test results.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Proficiency in Python, C, and C++.
- Demonstrated experience developing robotics software (trajectory/path planning, motor control, or similar).
- Portfolio (e.g., GitHub) showing practical projects and code is required.
- Ability to develop software for Linux and to test on hardware; strong debugging and system-integration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with feedback control systems.
- Experience developing computer vision applications.
- Proficiency in Rust.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher (Bachelor’s, Master’s) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
