Job Title

Yield Development Engineer

Role Summary

The Yield Development Engineer analyzes manufacturing and experimental data to identify yield limiters, develop statistical models, and drive process improvements across advanced semiconductor technology nodes. The role is part of Intel's Yield Organization and works with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturability and support product ramp-up.

Experience Level

Mid-level - role is targeted at mid-career engineers. Relevant industry experience is typically in the mid-career range (approximately 3–7 years of relevant work).

Responsibilities

Primary duties include data-driven yield improvement, failure analysis, and tooling to support manufacturing ramp readiness.

  • Analyze manufacturing and experimental data to identify yield limiters and recommend process changes.
  • Develop statistical models, visualizations, and process-development roadmaps.
  • Consolidate and analyze large-scale datasets using coding, machine learning, and statistical methods.
  • Collaborate with design, test, and process teams to debug yield issues.
  • Perform fault isolation and failure analysis using ATE testing, DFx software, optical probing, logic simulation, and layout studies.
  • Create measurement recipes and participate in design of experiments to support new product introduction and manufacturing ramp readiness.
  • Develop tools and methodologies for high-volume data analysis and yield-improvement actions.
  • Communicate findings and lead cross-functional efforts to implement corrective actions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and eligible constraints. Preferred items are listed separately.

  • Proven experience with engineering analysis tools, data analysis, and scripting to automate analytical tasks.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience using JMP for statistical analysis and creating dashboards.
  • Experience consolidating and interpreting diverse big-data sources and applying statistical or machine-learning techniques to drive actionable insights.
  • Practical understanding of logic or substrate process flows relevant to yield analysis and manufacturability.
  • Hands-on experience with fault isolation and failure-analysis techniques and tools.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to lead cross-functional troubleshooting and implement solutions.
  • This position is not eligible for Intel immigration sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in integration, yield analysis, LYA, failure analysis, test, defect metrology, or QNR.
  • Familiarity with wafer-level or package assembly processes and associated yield considerations.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect analysis results to process fundamentals and systematically solve yield challenges.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related technical field. Minimum experience expectations tied to degree: Bachelor's +6 years, Master's +4 years, PhD +2 years.
