Job Title

Yield Development Engineer

Role Summary

The Yield Development Engineer will analyze defect and process data, lead failure analysis, and implement process and tooling changes to improve manufacturing yield for semiconductor products. The role requires cross-functional collaboration with process, design, module, and test teams and ownership of data-driven root cause identification and remediation.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” 0–2+ years of professional experience is typical for this role (per posted minimum qualifications).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include data analysis, failure analysis, and experimental work to improve board-level assembly and packaging yield.

  • Analyze defect and process data to identify root causes and yield limiters for board-level assembly processes.
  • Perform statistical analyses of defect imaging data to identify key failure modes.
  • Lead failure analysis using advanced FA techniques to determine defect root causes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to debug yield issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and deploy automated imaging processes and defect detection methods.
  • Design and execute lab experiments in coordination with factory task forces to drive yield improvements.
  • Develop tools, algorithms, and methodologies for high-volume data analysis to support root-cause findings.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and capabilities, plus preferred additions.

  • Must-have: Experience with statistical analysis of defect/imaging data and proficiency in data-driven problem solving.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with failure analysis workflows and the ability to lead FA activities.
  • Must-have: Ability to work in a lab environment and collaborate across disciplines to implement process improvements.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with JMP or other statistical analysis software and experience with Mentor Graphics tools.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with automated imaging methodologies and defect detection algorithms.
  • Nice-to-have: Practical experience with optical microscopy, SEM imaging, cross-section polishing, X-ray, EDS, and ion milling.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience analyzing large datasets and building tools/algorithms for high-volume analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Microelectronics, or a similar technical field is listed as the minimum. The posting indicates 0–2+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree. (No explicit alternative "equivalent experience" language was provided.)
