Role Summary

The Graduate Silicon Design Engineer position is offered within the Networking Technology and Solution IP Group at AMD, specifically part of the Data Centre design team in Belfast. This role focuses on the design and verification of ASIC blocks tailored for cutting-edge data centre networking, particularly addressing the requirements of AI clusters used for training and inference. Candidates can expect to engage in all stages of the design process, from architecture to end-to-end validation.

Recent graduates or final-year students with relevant educational backgrounds will find this position suitable. Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Working on real silicon design projects, contributing to the design, build, and delivery processes of high-end products.
  • Collaborating with global teams and learning leading industry EDA tools and processes.
  • Engaging in digital hardware design and developing hardware architectures for algorithm implementations.
  • Participating in verification and validation processes essential for the successful launch of AMD’s AI products.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog/SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with ASIC and/or FPGA simulation and synthesis tools.
  • Familiarity with UVM (Universal Verification Methodology) or Formal Verification is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting in C/C++, Python, Perl, or TCL for developing testbenches.
  • Awareness of AI tools and AMD products, particularly CPUs and GPUs, is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative approach within teams across varied sites and time zones.

Education Requirements

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines is necessary.
