Job Title

Yield Development Engineer

Role Summary

Lead yield-improvement efforts across technology development and high-volume manufacturing to identify yield limiters, drive root-cause analysis, and implement process and product changes. Work in cross-functional teams (process integration, defect engineering, electrical fault isolation, and design) to develop data-driven methods, tools, and strategies that enable meeting yield milestones and smooth new-product introductions.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Experienced hire). Candidates are expected to have relevant industry experience in semiconductor processing, devices, or nanotechnology; see Education Requirements for degree and years guidance.

Responsibilities

Accountable for statistical and data-driven activities that improve yield, support failure analysis, and enable manufacturability.

  • Perform statistical analysis and build process development roadmaps to meet technology yield milestones.
  • Aggregate and analyze diverse data sources to identify defect modes and construct yield models.
  • Develop multivariate algorithms and machine-learning approaches for high-volume data analysis.
  • Extract insights from structured and unstructured data using coding, ML, and advanced statistics.
  • Collaborate with process integration, defect engineering, electrical fault isolation, and design teams to debug yield detractors.
  • Conduct fault isolation and failure analysis to determine root causes of yield-impacting issues.
  • Develop tools and systems to convert manufacturing data into actionable yield-improvement strategies.
  • Support new product introductions and participate in factory task forces to ensure process optimization.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant hands-on experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Relevant experience in semiconductor processing, semiconductor devices, or nanotechnology; see Education Requirements for degree/years guidance.
  • Proficiency with data analysis systems, machine-learning techniques, and coding for large datasets.
  • Experience with optical probing or metrology methods and fault isolation/failure analysis techniques.
  • Expertise in Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Experience developing software/tools or full-stack applications and working with cloud-based platforms to support manufacturing data workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-functional and matrixed teams and to communicate technical findings to stakeholders.
  • One or more years of hands-on experience in at least one of the above technical areas (data analysis/ML, optical/metrology, SPC/DOE, or software development).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting semiconductor equipment.
  • Experience in yield modeling methodologies and advanced device-interaction modeling.
  • Experience presenting yield strategies and managing projects in complex environments.

Education Requirements

Degree options accepted: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Typical experience guidance from the posting: Bachelor's + 3+ years relevant experience, Master's + 2+ years relevant experience, or PhD (no specific additional experience required). The posting also notes that required experience may be obtained via coursework, research, internships, or prior roles.
