Engineer II - Design
Role Summary
Develop and execute silicon and system validation for PCIe switches and NVMe controllers. Work includes test design, post-silicon debugging, test automation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to resolve hardware and software issues.
Position is lab-focused and based in Burnaby, supporting prototype ICs, board bring-up, and system-level validation.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically 2+ years of relevant experience. New graduates with appropriate experience may be considered.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve planning and executing validation activities, diagnosing problems, and improving test infrastructure.
- Design, develop, and execute silicon and system validation plans to verify functional specifications.
- Diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software issues in post-silicon environments.
- Build and enhance validation tools and test automation scripts.
- Lead complex test execution and investigations in the lab (on-site and remote).
- Find, report, and drive resolution of bugs with cross-functional teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge with the team.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for the role are listed below; preferred skills follow.
- 2+ years of relevant validation experience (post-silicon, IC/SoC validation).
- Knowledge of software engineering principles and validation methodologies.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming (examples: Python, C).
- Deep understanding of digital systems and computer architecture.
- Experience debugging prototype ICs, boards, and hardware infrastructure.
- Experience working in a lab with test equipment and protocol analyzers.
- Ability to develop and execute functional validation plans, including writing supporting software/tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-team collaboration and technical reporting.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of PCIe/CXL system architecture and/or NVMe storage interfaces.
- Familiarity with I2C/I3C/SMBus interfaces and lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers).
- Experience in high-speed digital design, SERDES testing, and board-level development.
- Experience with FPGA tools and VHDL/Verilog coding.
- Experience assembling computer systems and working with Linux and Windows OS.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. New graduates with appropriate experience may be considered.
