Yield Development Engineer

Role Summary

The Yield Development Engineer supports assembly technology development labs to identify root-cause yield limiters and drive yield and manufacturability improvements for semiconductor packaging and assembly processes. This role provides surface and materials analysis, data interpretation, and cross-functional technical support.

Experience Level

Entry-level. The posting specifies Ph.D. holders with ~1+ year of experience or Master’s holders with ~4+ years of relevant experience; the role is described as entry level.

Responsibilities

Core duties include performing surface and materials analyses, supporting lab operations, and contributing to process development and failure analysis.

  • Perform ToF-SIMS, XPS/Auger, mIRage, Nano-IR, Raman and related spectroscopy and surface analysis techniques.
  • Analyze complex ToF-SIMS/Auger/XPS/IR data and report findings to engineering teams.
  • Provide direct customer support to internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in lab sustaining activities: instrument maintenance, tool ownership, safety initiatives, and training.
  • Support process transfer, troubleshooting, and manufacturability/yield improvement projects.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and analytical groups.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant experience; educational degree requirements are listed separately below.

  • Practical experience operating UHV-based analytical equipment and surface-analysis tools such as ToF-SIMS, Auger/XPS, dynamic SIMS, mIRage, FTIR, Nano-IR, Raman, AFM, SEM/EDS.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret spectroscopy and surface-analysis data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, organization, and written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to work safely in lab environments and perform routine instrument maintenance.
  • Preferred: familiarity with statistical/data tools (JMP, Python), DOE methodologies, semiconductor processing, packaging, failure analysis, and big-data visualization.

Education Requirements

Must possess a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or another STEM-related field with 1+ years of relevant experience, OR a Master’s degree in a similar field with 4+ years of relevant experience. The posting also notes candidates who expect to complete the required Ph.D. by August 2026 are acceptable.
