Job Title
Yield Development Engineer
Role Summary
Work on process and yield improvement for advanced logic manufacturing by analyzing high-volume process, defect, and electrical data to identify root-cause yield limiters and drive process changes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams in design, test, and manufacturing to enable product ramps and improve yield.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The position expects experience in yield engineering; the posting specifies 3 years of relevant experience when combined with the required degree.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Identify and diagnose yield limiters across process, defect, and electrical domains.
- Perform statistical analysis, build visualizations, and create process development roadmaps to meet yield milestones.
- Consolidate and analyze diverse big-data sources; develop methodologies for defect-mode understanding and yield modeling.
- Develop multivariate algorithms, tools, and systems for high-volume data analysis and yield Pareto construction.
- Execute fault isolation and failure analysis using ATE, probing, simulation, and layout studies to determine root cause.
- Design experiments and participate in factory task forces for new product introduction and design-technology co-optimization.
- Create measurement recipes and harden equipment to meet operational and capability needs for leading-edge nodes.
- Translate experimental and manufacturing data into actionable yield-improvement steps and process changes.
- Form and lead cross-functional debugging efforts involving design, test, and process development teams.
Requirements
Must-have and desirable skills for success in this role.
- Practical experience in yield engineering, data synthesis, and root-cause analysis in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong statistical and data-analysis skills; experience applying statistics, machine learning, and coding to large datasets.
- Familiarity with data tools and scripting (examples: SQL, JMP) and ability to develop analysis pipelines and visualizations.
- Experience with fault isolation, electrical characterization, ATE testing, probing, and layout-driven debugging.
- Ability to develop measurement recipes and qualify equipment for production use.
- Effective communication, multitasking, and decision-making in a fast-paced manufacturing environment; ability to manage competing priorities.
- Willingness to work on-site regularly; relocation assistance available if eligible.
- Nice-to-have: knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE), and cleanroom experience.
Education Requirements
Minimum: B.S. degree in an engineering or science discipline plus 3 years of experience in yield engineering, or M.S. degree in engineering or science (examples listed in the posting: Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering). Equivalent combinations of education and relevant practical experience were noted in the source.
