Linux Kernel & BSP Software Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Join the i.MX Software team in Bucharest to design, implement and execute validation and automated testing for Linux Board Support Packages (BSP) and kernels for i.MX microprocessors. The role focuses on delivering and maintaining test plans, automated test execution, failure analysis, and continuous testing infrastructure to ensure high-quality OS stacks for embedded processors.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” 3–4 years of relevant experience in software validation, testing, or similar embedded/Linux roles.

Responsibilities

Accountable for validation activities across the development lifecycle and for maintaining test automation and infrastructure.

  • Define test plans and test cases from requirements analysis.
  • Implement and run manual and automated test suites for Linux BSP and kernel components.
  • Analyze failures, perform root-cause analysis, and report defects.
  • Develop and maintain automated test execution environments, scripts, and validation frameworks.
  • Assess feature impact and coordinate test strategy with stakeholders across sites.
  • Monitor and analyze automated test results and metrics.
  • Support board-farm setup, maintenance and hardware/software integration for validation.

Requirements

  • Must-have: solid understanding of test methodologies and test processes.
  • Must-have: experience with continuous integration and continuous testing workflows.
  • Must-have: scripting experience (Python, Bash or equivalent).
  • Must-have: Linux operating system experience and familiarity with kernel-level behavior.
  • Must-have: experience with git, JIRA and CI systems such as Jenkins or Bamboo.
  • Nice-to-have: C/C++ programming experience and familiarity with Linux drivers/modules for connectivity, networking, graphics, AI/ML, security, or audio/video.
  • Nice-to-have: electronics troubleshooting/debugging and board-farm or hardware validation experience.
  • Collaborative team player with good communication and knowledge-sharing habits.
