Yield and Characterization Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)

Role Summary

Internship supporting the Functional Electrical Test Characterization team at FAB 9. The role focuses on characterizing electrical signals from wafer test, kerf test, and inline sources, performing yield analysis, and driving yield improvement projects across multiple teams.

This position provides hands-on experience in semiconductor test, characterization, and cross-functional problem solving.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students or recent graduates. The posting lists 1+ years of semiconductor industry experience as preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include monitoring test data, diagnosing yield issues, and supporting process improvements.

  • Monitor electrical performance trends and disposition of holds at electrical test.
  • Support abnormal product investigations and urgent fab operational issues.
  • Perform yield analysis and develop improvement plans; identify yield limiters.
  • Develop and improve yield characterization and data analysis methodologies.
  • Support process module engineering to improve cost, cycle-time, and manufacturing robustness.
  • Analyze materials and participate in change review board actions.
  • Communicate findings across internal teams and, when applicable, with customers.
  • Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

  • Must-have: Understanding of semiconductor technology and solid-state device physics.
  • Must-have: Strong analytical skills and timely delivery of assigned work.
  • Must-have: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a global matrixed team.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior related internship or co-op experience in semiconductors.
  • Nice-to-have: Demonstrated leadership experience (projects, competitions, workplace).
  • Nice-to-have: Project management skills and ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Nice-to-have: Customer-facing experience.
  • Nice-to-have: 1+ years of semiconductor industry experience (preferred).

Education Requirements

Required: B.S. (Bachelor of Science) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
