Year-End Failure Analysis Lab SEM & ETM Process Technician (Idaho Fab 1)
Role Summary
Perform SEM and ETM inline targeting and imaging for failure analysis to support yield enhancement at Idaho Fab 1. Follow customer instructions or standard protocols to collect high-quality images and analysis data for device troubleshooting.
Work within a failure analysis lab team, coordinate with customers and supervisors, maintain lab safety and training, and contribute process improvement suggestions.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early Career. Preferred: 2+ years of industry or equivalent military experience where specified.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include performing targeted SEM/ETM analysis, preparing samples, and delivering supported conclusions for analysis requests.
- Execute SEM and ETM analysis requests according to detailed instructions or standardized protocols.
- Prepare samples using basic cross-sectioning and inline targeting techniques.
- Prioritize tasks from the request queue and coordinate with supervisors on priority changes.
- Collaborate with customers, peers, and supervisors to clarify requirements and ensure accurate results.
- Interpret collected data and deliver well-supported conclusions for each request.
- Operate SEM/ETM lab equipment safely and maintain required training and certifications.
- Identify and report minor equipment issues proactively to minimize disruptions.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of device structures and upcoming components.
- Recommend process improvements and share knowledge to support team learning and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Candidates must be able to work in a cleanroom lab environment and meet operational scheduling needs. Specific qualifications are listed below.
Must-have:
- Ability and willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts (examples: 3 on/4 off or 4 on/3 off) and to work overtime as needed.
- Mandatory use of lab cleanroom garments 100% of the time; occasional use of PPE (chemical apron, face shield) as required.
- Hands-on ability to operate and safely use SEM and ETM equipment; maintain required lab training and certifications.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and standardized procedures; strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with customers, peers, and supervisors.
- Proactive problem identification and basic troubleshooting/reporting of equipment issues.
Preferred / Nice-to-have:
- 2+ years of industry experience or equivalent military training/experience.
- Experience working in a laboratory or semiconductor fab environment.
- Experience identifying performance gaps and implementing process improvements.
Education Requirements
Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: AAS/AS degree in Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Science, Physics, Mathematics, or Supply Chain Management, or equivalent trade school or military experience. The role also requires maintaining applicable lab training and certifications.
