Working Student - Tape-Out Engineering (Werkstudent)
Role Summary
Support the Tapeout Operations team in Dresden by assisting the development and daily operation of systems and processes that produce photomask data from physical IC designs. The role helps ensure clean, manufacturable tapeouts and continuous improvement of tapeout workflows.
Experience Level
Entry-level / student position. Intended for currently enrolled university students; no senior-level experience required.
Responsibilities
Typical duties include operational support, tooling, and documentation to enable reliable tapeouts.
- Contribute to development of tapeout systems that generate photomask data from physical designs.
- Participate in daily tapeout operations such as DRC, data preparation and handover between sites.
- Work with fabs, OPC teams, logistics & integration teams to deliver clean tapeouts to RTM.
- Help develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce cost and shorten turnaround times.
- Investigate and learn new technologies; support tactical and strategic problem resolution.
- Document best practices and create training materials; support risk assessment and mitigation for processes.
- Position duration: minimum 12 months. Working hours: up to 20 hours/week during semester, up to 40 hours/week during semester breaks.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and workplace abilities.
- Practical experience with submicron IC design and semiconductor manufacturing workflows.
- Familiarity with common EDA tools (examples: Calibre DRC/LVS, Cadence Virtuoso).
- Scripting skills (TCL, Python, Perl, shell) for automation and data processing.
- Comfortable working in Linux/UNIX environments.
- Fluent English (written and spoken, minimum C1).
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Education Requirements
Must be currently enrolled at a German university in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Chemistry. Candidates should be able to provide a current enrollment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung) and academic transcript.
