Senior Digital Backend Engineer
Role Summary
The Digital Physical Design Engineer/Architect performs physical implementation of IP, subsystems or ICs from RTL synthesis through GDSII, including floorplanning, placement, routing, timing closure, ECOs, and physical verification to meet technology and reliability rules.
Defines physical design strategy per technology node and resolves implementation and convergence issues to satisfy DRC/LVS, electromigration, and IR drop requirements.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include physical implementation, optimization and verification:
- Perform RTL synthesis to GDSII implementation for IP, subsystem or SoC designs.
- Floorplanning, placement, routing and timing closure (STA) to meet timing and area targets.
- Execute design ECOs and iterative optimization for timing convergence.
- Run and interpret physical verification (DRC/LVS) and reliability checks (EM/IR).
- Define and apply physical design strategies for specific technology nodes.
- Troubleshoot implementation issues and collaborate with design and verification teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and behaviors:
- Hands-on experience with physical implementation flows from synthesis to GDSII and timing closure.
- Experience with floorplanning, placement, routing, ECOs and STA-driven optimization.
- Familiarity with physical verification and reliability checks including DRC, LVS, electromigration and IR drop analysis.
- Ability to define physical design strategy per technology node and solve implementation issues.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills across design and verification teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience at IP, subsystem or full-chip level and multiple process nodes.
- Prior role as architect or lead for physical design projects.
