Job Title

Working Student — RF Validation and Lab Automation

Role Summary

Part-time student position within NXP's Terahertz Lab in Hamburg supporting RF/mmWave and sub-THz validation and lab automation. The role combines hands-on RF measurements, simulation work, and development of automated test and reporting tools to support characterization of high-frequency systems.

The student will work with lab engineers to develop measurement routines, automate equipment control and data storage, and contribute to an NXP-wide lab automation library.

Experience Level

Entry-level; student role. Suitable for current university students or equivalent early-career candidates.

Responsibilities

Key day-to-day responsibilities include measurement, simulation, and automation tasks in a high-frequency lab environment.

  • Perform and analyze RF measurements using lab equipment.
  • Develop PHY-level and system-level simulations and EM simulations for passive components.
  • Create pre- and post-processing scripts and automated reports for measurement results.
  • Develop automated test routines and remote control for measurement equipment.
  • Implement automated storage and management of measurement data.
  • Contribute code and components to the NXP lab automation library.
  • Collaborate with lab engineers to improve measurement setups and automation workflows.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and desirable tools/traits.

  • Experience programming in Python or MATLAB, especially for signal processing or measurement automation.
  • Hands-on experience with RF measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, power supplies).
  • Experience with EM and system-level simulation tools; familiarity with Ansys HFSS and PathWave SystemVue is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail and structured, organized work habits.
  • Good verbal and written English and ability to work in a team.

Education Requirements

Current enrollment in a university program in Electrical Engineering (student status expected), preferably with a focus on RF/high-frequency technologies.
