Job Title

Working Student - HW/SW Customer Engineer

Role Summary

Work as a student member of the Customer Hardware/Software Enabling team within the Edge Customer Engineering Division (Silicon and Platform Engineering). Support customer integrations of Intel embedded and industrial products, debug hardware/software interactions, and coordinate with software, silicon and system engineering teams.

The role provides hands-on lab and board-level experience, exposure to embedded industry workflows, and participation in customer-facing technical engagements. The position is eligible for a hybrid work model.

Experience Level

Entry-level (student / internship). No specific professional experience required; role is intended for current students.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include direct customer support, debugging, test development, and lab operations.

  • Respond to and troubleshoot customer support queries.
  • Reproduce and debug customer issues using Intel reference design boards.
  • Present complex technical issues internally and to customers.
  • Create test automation and configure remote test setups.
  • Investigate and resolve technical problems via research, debugging, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Manage and maintain lab inventory and test equipment.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, personal attributes, and collaboration abilities.

  • Motivation to address challenging customer issues and use HW/SW debugging tools and measurement equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of x86 computer architecture.
  • Basic understanding of microcontroller or CPU boot processes.
  • Ability to read and analyze electrical schematics and PCB files.
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal).
  • Ability to collaborate with a team and work independently; accountable for assigned tasks.
  • Persistence and problem-solving skills for hard-to-find issues; willingness to learn new skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on experience with microcontroller or embedded boards.
  • Familiarity with software debug tools.
  • Experience with hardware measurement equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer).
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (Cadence, Mentor, Zuken).
  • Hardware, software, or firmware design experience.

Education Requirements

Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field (student/working-student status required).
