Wireless Software Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Wireless Software Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and optimize real-time embedded modem firmware (MPSS) across protocol layers, device drivers, and RTOS-level components. Work on constrained, performance-sensitive code running on DSP and Arm cores within the Modem Systems Software team.
The role emphasizes AI-native engineering: integrate and build LLM/agent-assisted workflows and tooling to accelerate coding, review, test synthesis, and debug. This position is not eligible for Qualcomm immigration sponsorship.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career. Typically 1+ year of relevant experience in embedded software, computer architecture, or programming; works under supervision.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, verification, and maintenance of modem firmware and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Design, implement, and optimize real-time embedded modem software meeting strict latency, memory, and power constraints.
- Apply data-structure and algorithm design for efficient, scalable firmware components.
- Own end-to-end feature delivery: requirements, architecture, implementation, unit/integration testing, on-target bring-up, and maintenance.
- Integrate and pioneer AI-native development practices and agent workflows to improve productivity and debugging.
- Develop and maintain AI-assisted tooling for code review, static analysis, test synthesis, and automated crash/log triage.
- Debug and root-cause complex issues on target hardware using logs, traces, and RAM dumps (increasingly with AI assistance).
- Collaborate with systems, hardware, test, and integration teams to deliver production-quality firmware.
- Participate in code and design reviews and mentor peers on embedded and AI-native engineering techniques.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: Proficient in C/C++ for embedded systems; experience with low-level, performance-constrained code.
- Experience with real-time systems and RTOS concepts; strong debugging skills on target hardware.
- Solid understanding of computer architecture and low-level device drivers.
- Strong data-structure and algorithm design skills focused on efficiency and resource constraints.
- Practical experience with unit/integration testing and on-target bring-up processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and documentation.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Python for tooling, prior wireless/semiconductor/WWAN modem development experience, familiarity with RF or WWAN L1/L2/L3 specifications, or past work on multi-RAT modem software.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
