Wireless Module Engineer
AppleJob Title
Wireless Module Engineer
Role Summary
The Wireless Module Engineer (WME) leads development of wireless modules from early architecture through mass-production ramp. The role coordinates RF architecture, ATE/test coverage, reliability, and manufacturing integration across internal teams and outsourced semiconductor assembly & test (OSAT) partners.
The WME ensures design-for-manufacturability, validates ATE hardware/software integration at OSATs, drives failure analysis and yield improvements, and supports multiple product lines through NPI to production ramp.
Experience Level
Senior - requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience (per posting).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include technical leadership, supplier management, and assurance of test and manufacturing readiness for wireless modules.
- Lead early RF architecture and specification discussions with internal teams and OSATs; ensure OSAT compliance with specifications and approval workflows.
- Drive formal module design release process: schematics, PCB layout, RF simulation, DFM, and test readiness reviews.
- Own ATE hardware/software maturity at OSATs: load boards, sockets, handlers, firmware, calibration, GRR, and Cpk/data analysis.
- Define and validate module test coverage and test limits (open/short, VCO calibration, TX/RX calibration, RF packet/EVM, RX sensitivity, etc.).
- Manage failures and yield/rate improvements post-NPI; lead failure analysis with OSATs and implement corrective actions to improve yield and retest rates.
- Coordinate cross-functional priorities, risk visibility, and schedules with RF HW Design, Test Engineering, Reliability, Quality, DFM, supply managers, and product teams.
- Travel internationally to OSATs for module and ATE bring-up (typically 1β2 weeks before NPI builds) and debug integration issues at the hardware/firmware/system level.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, plus a concise list of desirable skills.
- Must-have: Strong RF fundamentals and hands-on capability to debug RF and interface issues (example: I2C, PCIe).
- Must-have: Experience owning ATE/test coverage, calibration, and data analysis (GRR, Cpk, retest-rate analysis) for modules.
- Must-have: Proven communication skills and experience leading cross-functional and vendor teams across time zones.
- Must-have: Track record of driving projects to mass production and communicating technical risks to stakeholders.
- Nice-to-have: Experience in packaging, product engineering, reliability engineering, and managing OSATs for consumer electronics.
- Nice-to-have: AI/ML or advanced data-analysis experience applied to yield or test optimization.
- Nice-to-have: Experience reviewing mechanical/electrical designs for sockets, fixtures, and test systems; project scheduling and WBS creation.
Education Requirements
Requirement in posting: Bachelor of Science (BS) and a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.
