Job Title

Wide Bandgap Device/PI Engineer (R&D)

Role Summary

Lead development, characterization, and optimization of gallium nitride (GaN) power devices for high-volume manufacturing as part of TI's Advanced Technology Development team. Work spans device simulation, process development, reliability, and cross-functional integration with fab, manufacturing, and business teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level - minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in GaN or compound semiconductor device/process development.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing and maturing GaN power devices and process flows, executing experiments, and resolving integration and reliability issues.

  • Perform device simulations (TCAD), device design, and layout for GaN power FETs and related devices.
  • Develop and optimize process flows; plan and execute design-of-experiment (DOE) campaigns.
  • Work with fab and manufacturing engineers to ensure device manufacturability and yield.
  • Collaborate with reliability engineers to define and meet reliability targets; perform failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Conduct electrical and materials characterization and statistical data analysis to guide process and device improvements.
  • Maintain hands-on laboratory execution and testing; document and communicate results to cross-functional teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are listed separately.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in GaN or compound semiconductor device/process development.
  • Strong knowledge of semiconductor processing, particularly III-V materials and GaN process physics.
  • Experience with process integration, DOE planning, electrical characterization, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with device simulations (TCAD), device design, and layout.
  • Hands-on lab experience and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work across functional teams and communicate technical results clearly.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with GaN-on-Silicon for power switching, experience with fab tools and process modules, and knowledge of packaging interactions and reliability mechanisms.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Preferred: PhD in the same or a closely related discipline.
