Role Summary

Join Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Digital Space Technology group in the Electronics and Payloads Directorate in Manhattan Beach, CA, as an ASIC engineer working on digital designs for space applications.

The role focuses on RTL design, verification, synthesis, timing analysis, and lab integration for ASIC/FPGA-based digital systems.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Hiring typically expects either a Bachelor of Science in a STEM field plus ~2 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment, or a Master’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with no prior experience required.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include design, verification, and lab integration of digital ASIC/FPGA systems for space applications.

  • Develop RTL (VHDL or Verilog) for digital systems.
  • Perform simulation, emulation, synthesis, timing analysis, and logic equivalency checks.
  • Create verification plans and develop verification testbenches (VHDL/SystemVerilog).
  • Integrate designs in the lab and perform hardware testing.
  • Trace requirements and conduct reviews and audits of simulation procedures and test environments.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and clearances; preferred skills listed separately.

  • Experience with RTL design for space applications (VHDL or Verilog).
  • Experience developing ASIC/FPGA architecture from requirements.
  • Lab experience with hardware integration and testing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance.

Preferred:

  • Hands-on lab testing of digital hardware.
  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado or Microchip Libero tools.
  • SystemVerilog and UVM methodology for verification.
  • Background in DSP for digital communications and digital network design.
  • Existing DoD or equivalent security clearance.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline (with ~2 years of aerospace engineering experience) OR a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (may qualify with 0 years of experience).
