Wearables Systems Architect
Meta PlatformsJob Title
Wearables Systems Architect
Role Summary
Lead system architecture for upcoming consumer wearables (AI glasses, AI wrist devices, AR hardware) within Reality Labs. Define platform-level architectures, set technical strategy and roadmap, and coordinate across industrial design, hardware, software, supply chain and external partners to move concepts from prototype to high-volume production.
Experience Level
Senior-level; requires 15+ years of product experience in electrical, systems, or computer engineering.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining architectures, analyzing trade-offs, and driving prototypes to production.
- Own platform system architecture across subsystems (compute/memory, displays/optics, sensors, audio, connectivity, I/O, firmware) from concept through production ramp.
- Collaborate with other system architects and software teams to capture workload requirements and select/define compute silicon with appropriate accelerators.
- Maintain detailed specifications and workload assumptions to align cross-functional teams.
- Perform workload profiling and resource-utilization analysis on target compute platforms.
- Conduct trade-off studies and deliver engineering solutions for architectural challenges during early concept development.
- Communicate technology and product strategy to internal and external stakeholders and guide long-term technology investments.
- Create hardware system metrics, standards and tools to inform design decisions.
- Drive system requirements to enable new AR/AI experiences and advance research/technology roadmaps.
- Travel domestically up to 15%.
Requirements
Concise list of required and preferred skills; degrees summarized separately under Education Requirements.
- Must-have: 15+ years of product experience in electrical, systems, or computer engineering; experience defining architectures or systems engineering in one or more of: electrical, silicon, firmware, audio, sensors, wireless connectivity, displays/optical systems.
- Must-have: Fundamentals in computer architecture; experience with rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept models; demonstrated communication and collaboration with product development engineers, product managers, and cross-functional hardware/software teams.
- Must-have: Experience working with external partners and supply-base engagements; proven systems skills including SoC evaluation, optical systems, sensors, computer-vision algorithms, software and AI.
- Nice-to-have: Experience modeling system power/thermals/battery trade-offs; firmware development; programming; computer vision; Android or Zephyr OS experience; experience with AR/VR and complex sensing systems.
- Nice-to-have: Experience creating system models for compute, latency and interface bandwidth; integrating AI tools to optimize workflows; familiarity with responsible AI practices; understanding of memory subsystems and memory management.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is expected. MS or PhD in related fields is preferred but not required; the posting accepts equivalent industry experience as an alternative to advanced degrees.
