VLSI Engineer
Role Summary
The VLSI Engineer will work on design, verification, and implementation of high-performance digital and analog circuits as part of a semiconductor design team.
The role involves RTL development, functional verification, synthesis and physical-design collaboration, and support for silicon bring-up and post-silicon validation.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career — suitable for recent graduates up to ~5 years of experience in VLSI design and development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include RTL development, verification, and participation in the ASIC/FPGA design flow.
- Participate in RTL design and development using Verilog/SystemVerilog.
- Perform functional verification, simulation, and debugging of designs.
- Assist in synthesis, static timing analysis, and design optimization.
- Work on physical design tasks (floorplanning, placement, routing) as applicable and collaborate with physical-design engineers.
- Collaborate with architecture, verification, and physical-design teams.
- Analyze power, performance, and area (PPA) metrics and recommend improvements.
- Support silicon bring-up and post-silicon validation activities.
- Document design specifications, test plans, and verification results.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of digital electronics and VLSI fundamentals; proficiency with HDL languages such as Verilog or SystemVerilog; familiarity with EDA tool flow (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence, Mentor Graphics); basic understanding of ASIC/FPGA design flow; good problem-solving, debugging, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with scripting (Python, Perl, Tcl); exposure to physical design, DFT, or low-power techniques; familiarity with interfaces/protocols (AXI, SPI, I2C, PCIe); previous internship or project experience in VLSI design or verification.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field is expected; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
