Job Title

RTL Design Engineer

Role Summary

Member of AMD's Memory PHY team responsible for RTL and firmware development for high-speed memory interfaces (LPDDR/DDR). Work spans microarchitectural design, RTL implementation, power and timing optimization, verification collaboration, and physical implementation.

Responsibilities

Deliver RTL features and support integration of memory PHY IP through design, verification, and implementation phases.

  • Microarchitectural design and RTL implementation of memory PHY IP features.
  • Develop firmware sequences and algorithms in collaboration with firmware team.
  • Perform synthesis, static timing analysis (STA), CDC/RDC analysis, UPF design/simulation, power optimization, and gate-level simulation.
  • Drive timing synthesis and support physical implementation with circuit and layout teams.
  • Collaborate with design verification teams; author and run UVM testbenches and debug RTL/firmware using simulation tools.
  • Participate in design specification reviews, RTL code reviews, and performance/power trade-off analysis.

Requirements

Core technical skills and tools expected for the role.

Must-have

  • Strong RTL design skills in Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Proficient in C and at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, or TCL).
  • Experience debugging RTL and firmware with simulation tools; familiarity with UVM testbenches and working in Linux and Windows environments.
  • Understanding of clocking architectures, synchronization, CDC methodology, and STA concepts.
  • Digital design and microarchitecture knowledge for high-speed interfaces.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with SERDES, DDR, memory controller, or MAC design.
  • Mixed-signal RTL experience and familiarity with UPF/power-optimization flows.
  • Exposure to leadership or mentorship roles.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
