VHDL Design Engineer

Role Summary

The FPGA/ASIC Firmware Engineer will design, architect, and implement waveforms and digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for software defined radio (SDR) hardware using VHDL or Verilog. The role includes FPGA/ASIC IP core development, fixed-point modeling, synthesis-aware design, system integration, and test automation.

This position is based onsite in Cincinnati, OH and requires eligibility to obtain a United States security clearance.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include firmware design, IP development, verification, and supporting lab and field testing:

  • Design and implement waveforms and DSP algorithms in VHDL (preferred) or Verilog.
  • Architect FPGA/ASIC solutions and develop reusable IP cores.
  • Simulate, verify, and optimize high-throughput digital designs for synthesis and low-power operation.
  • Support system integration, provide design documentation, and enable team supportability.
  • Perform lab and field testing using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers; conduct verification/acceptance testing.
  • Deliver technical briefings and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Travel as needed for customer support, training, and proposals.
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

Required technical skills and clearances are listed below. Education requirements are summarized separately under "Education Requirements."

  • Proficient in VHDL or Verilog for FPGA/ASIC firmware development.
  • Experience with FPGA/ASIC architecture design, simulation, and verification.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB and C/C++ for algorithm development and modeling.
  • Hands-on lab and field testing experience with signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and digital logic analyzers.
  • Knowledge of signal processing systems for transmit/receive chains, including acquisition, tracking, and demodulation.
  • Ability to produce concise design documentation and communicate technical results to teammates and customers.
  • Eligible to obtain a United States security clearance.
  • Demonstrated leadership or technical lead experience in digital design is preferred.
  • Experience developing solutions for military/DoD customers is a plus.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, preferably specializing in wireless communications/DSP, system design, or new product development; master’s preferred with work experience.
