Role Summary
The FPGA/ASIC Firmware Engineer will design, architect, and implement waveforms and digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for software defined radio (SDR) hardware using VHDL or Verilog. The role includes FPGA/ASIC IP core development, fixed-point modeling, synthesis-aware design, system integration, and test automation.
This position is based onsite in Cincinnati, OH and requires eligibility to obtain a United States security clearance.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify a years-of-experience range.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include firmware design, IP development, verification, and supporting lab and field testing:
- Design and implement waveforms and DSP algorithms in VHDL (preferred) or Verilog.
- Architect FPGA/ASIC solutions and develop reusable IP cores.
- Simulate, verify, and optimize high-throughput digital designs for synthesis and low-power operation.
- Support system integration, provide design documentation, and enable team supportability.
- Perform lab and field testing using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers; conduct verification/acceptance testing.
- Deliver technical briefings and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Travel as needed for customer support, training, and proposals.

- Experience with FPGA/ASIC architecture design, simulation, and verification.
- Familiarity with MATLAB and C/C++ for algorithm development and modeling.
- Hands-on lab and field testing experience with signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and digital logic analyzers.
- Knowledge of signal processing systems for transmit/receive chains, including acquisition, tracking, and demodulation.
- Ability to produce concise design documentation and communicate technical results to teammates and customers.
- Eligible to obtain a United States security clearance.
- Demonstrated leadership or technical lead experience in digital design is preferred.
- Experience developing solutions for military/DoD customers is a plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, preferably specializing in wireless communications/DSP, system design, or new product development; master’s preferred with work experience.
