Verification Software Engineer

Role Summary

Work on system-level validation, content quality, and scalable validation frameworks for Qualcomm SoCs across pre- and post-silicon phases. The role involves developing bare-metal test content, automation, and system debug across hardware and software boundaries.

This position is part of the Modem/Chiplet Validation & Emulation (SVE) team based in San Diego and is not eligible for Qualcomm immigration sponsorship.

Experience Level

Entry-level - open to new graduates and candidates with a few years of experience (0–3 years).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building, validating, and scaling system-level test content and validation infrastructure.

• Design, implement, and run bare-metal and Linux-based validation tests for SoC subsystems.
• Develop and maintain automation and analysis frameworks to scale validation across platforms and SKUs.
• Perform hardware-software co-debug across firmware, drivers, and hardware interfaces to diagnose silicon issues.
• Collaborate with HW designers to translate requirements into validation content and drivers.
• Develop reproducible test environments and improve debug turnaround and failure analysis.
• Execute performance, power, and concurrency validation including bandwidth, latency, QoS, and scalability tests.
• Use emulation, FPGA, and simulation platforms for pre-silicon validation and bring-up.
• Operate lab and debug tools (JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, kernel debuggers) for silicon bring-up and debug.
• Apply scripting and automation (Python, C/C++) to improve validation throughput and test consistency.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Nice-to-have items listed separately.

• Proficient in low-level programming: C/C++, Python, and experience with Assembly and Linux environments.
• Experience with device drivers, bare-metal software development, and embedded software debugging.
• Hands-on experience with lab and silicon debug tools (JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, kernel debuggers).
• Familiarity with pre-silicon platforms: simulation, emulation (FPGA/Veloce), and RTL concepts.
• Experience developing automation frameworks and scalable test infrastructure.
• System-level validation skills: performance, power, concurrency analysis, and stress testing.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and technical communication skills.
• Nice-to-have: knowledge of Modem, RF, or SERDES interfaces; experience applying ML/AI to validation and log analysis; prior work on high-speed link drivers.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience.
