Job Title

Validation Engineer, Electro-Optical Devices

Role Summary

Implement and execute validation methods for cryogenic electro-optical subsystems. Build laboratory test setups, run automated measurements, analyze results, and produce technical reports to inform design decisions.

Collaborate with design and experimental teams to debug, characterize, and improve electro-optical assemblies used in silicon-photonic quantum hardware. PsiQuantum is an equal opportunity employer.

Experience Level

Mid-level (5+ years of relevant industry experience).

Responsibilities

Plan and execute validation activities for cryogenic electro-optical assemblies; build and automate test hardware; report results and feedback to design teams.

  • Define figures of merit and develop validation plans for cryogenic electro-optical assemblies.
  • Design and assemble lab setups with light sources, detectors, switches, function generators/AWGs, oscilloscopes, VNAs, and other instrumentation for cryogenic testing.
  • Develop software scripts to automate instrument control, measurements, and data ingestion into databases.
  • Perform measurements, analyze data, and produce detailed validation reports including expected yield indicators.
  • Debug and characterize cryogenic electro-optical assemblies and provide actionable feedback to design teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and experimental teams to incorporate best practices and improve test methods.

Requirements

Technical skills and domain experience required or strongly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience testing in cryogenic environments.
  • Proficiency with optical and electrical test equipment: optical power meters, lasers, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, function generators/AWGs, and vector network analyzers.
  • Experience designing and building laboratory measurement setups and fiber-coupled test fixtures.
  • Experience developing test methods, calibration/tuning algorithms, and measurement optimization.
  • Experience writing automation scripts for instrument control and data collection (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, or equivalent).
  • Ability to produce clear technical reports and quantitative metrics (figures of merit, yield estimates).
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to work collaboratively with design and experimental teams.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with single-photon detectors and photonic integrated circuits.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science. The posting specifies 5+ years of industry experience.
