Job Title

University Intern - FR CMOS Device Engineering

Role Summary

This is an internship on the FR CMOS Device Engineering team at GlobalFoundries' Woodlands site. The intern will support semiconductor device characterization, data engineering, and machine-learning model development to enable device optimization and inverse design.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current university students or recent graduates seeking hands-on R&D experience in semiconductor device engineering.

Responsibilities

The intern will work on a defined project under mentorship. Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform device testing and experimental data collection across characterization platforms.
  • Develop scripts for data processing, cleaning, analysis, and visualization.
  • Prepare datasets and pipelines for machine learning workflows.
  • Train, validate, and refine deep learning models for device performance prediction.
  • Apply inverse-design techniques to propose optimal device parameters.
  • Assist with hardware tasks as needed (e.g., simple PCB work) to enable measurements and validate setups.
  • Document methods, results, and support final validation of device characterization.

Requirements

Core skills and attributes required or strongly preferred for successful performance in this internship:

  • Must-have: Proficiency in Python for data processing and analysis; familiarity with basic machine-learning concepts and workflows.
  • Must-have: Ability to work in a lab environment, carry out device measurements, follow test procedures, and record data accurately.
  • Must-have: Good problem-solving skills and ability to iterate on models and experiments under mentorship.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with C/C++, deep-learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and prior exposure to semiconductor device physics or characterization.
  • Nice-to-have: Basic PCB/hardware experience to support measurement setups.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (or equivalent practical experience). Enrollment in or recent completion of a relevant university program is expected for an internship role.
