Silicon Packaging Process Engineer, Production (Starlink)

Role Summary

Develop, qualify, and scale integrated circuit packaging and assembly processes for Starlink from prototype to high-volume production. Work with packaging, test, materials, design, equipment vendors, and production teams to improve yield, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.

Experience Level

Entry-level; typically expects 1+ years of manufacturing or related practical experience in semiconductor or electronics production.

Responsibilities

Deliver and sustain packaging and assembly processes across development and production.

• Develop and qualify wafer- and chip-level assembly processes (wafer grind, dicing, lithography, lamination, plating, etch, SMT, flip-chip, bonding, molding, underfill, dispense, sputter, lid attach, solder ball attach).
• Select and qualify equipment and materials; support tool installations, preventive maintenance, and qualification testing.
• Lead prototypes, product development, release-to-production, and process sustainment for high-volume manufacturing.
• Implement and monitor OCAP and SPC; perform defect and yield analysis, run DOE, and produce process metrics and reports.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and process drifts; perform root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
• Document procedures and create training materials for production technicians and associates.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with silicon design, materials, thermal, systems, and production teams.

Requirements

Must-have skills, operational expectations, and eligibility.

• 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment (professional work, project, or research-based student experience acceptable).
• Hands-on experience with semiconductor or electronics assembly processes and production troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with process control and statistical methods (SPC); experience with data analysis tools is preferred.
• Ability to work all shifts, including overtime and weekends as needed; available to travel up to 10% for vendor engagement and factory acceptance testing.
• Physical ability to perform production tasks (stand for long periods, climb ladders, lift up to 25 lb, bend, stoop, reach).
• ITAR eligibility: must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorizations. See pmddtc.state.gov for more information.

Nice-to-have:

• 3+ years of practical semiconductor manufacturing or fab experience.
• Proficiency with JMP, SQL, or other statistical/process-control software for trend analysis and SPC.
• Experience with New Product Integration (NPI), First Article Verification, and scaling to high-volume manufacturing.

Education Requirements

Basic qualification: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, math, or science discipline. Preferred fields include materials science, mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, or a related technical field. Project- or research-based student experience may count toward experience; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
