Job Title

Triton Compiler Engineer

Role Summary

Develop front-end and back-end components of the Triton compiler to generate efficient GPU kernels for Intel GPUs, working within the Data Center Group. The role focuses on compiler internals, code generation, and optimization for AI workloads and requires collaboration with hardware teams and open-source communities.

Currently classified as a remote position based in the greater Toronto metropolitan area; Intel is securing office space in the region and the role is expected to follow a hybrid model (on-site presence ~4 days/week) once the office opens.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining compiler components and collaborating with hardware and software teams.

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain Triton compiler front-end and back-end components.
  • Develop and optimize compiler passes for GPU kernels targeting AI workloads.
  • Work closely with hardware design teams, compiler partners, and programming communities to align compiler behavior with hardware capabilities.
  • Participate in language and standards groups and contribute to open-source projects.
  • Debug, release, and enhance tooling for domain-specific programming languages.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to be considered for this role.

  • Proficient in C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with compiler stages, code generation, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience using GitHub-based development workflows.
  • Familiarity with PyTorch attention techniques for transformer models.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to learn quickly.
  • Nice to have: experience with LLVM, MLIR, and Triton compiler architecture.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of GPU programming experience for AI workloads; OR Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with 2+ years experience; OR PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with 1+ year experience. Experience may be obtained through a combination of degree, research, prior job, or internship experience. Fields of study referenced: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical fields.
