Job Title

Triton Compiler Engineer

Role Summary

Develop front-end and back-end components of the Triton compiler to generate optimized GPU kernels for Intel GPUs. Work across compiler, hardware, and framework teams to implement code generation and optimization passes for transformer and other ML kernels.

Position is currently virtual while Intel secures office space in the greater Toronto, Ontario area. Once the site is operational, the role will follow Intel's hybrid model requiring on-site presence at least four days per week. Candidates must live and work from Canada.

Mid-level. Typical experience profile in the posting: Bachelor's +3 years, Master's +2 years, or PhD +0 years.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining compiler and tooling components for domain-specific languages and GPUs.

  • Design, develop, test, debug, release, and maintain compiler tooling for Triton and domain-specific languages.
  • Implement Triton front-end and back-end components and optimization passes for GPU kernels.
  • Collaborate with hardware design teams, compiler vendors, and open-source communities.
  • Participate in language and standards groups relevant to compiler and accelerator development.
  • Integrate with ML frameworks and support performance tuning for transformer attention and similar kernels.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Proficient programming in C, C++, and Python.
  • Must-have: Experience with compiler stages, code generation, and optimization techniques.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with GitHub development workflows and collaborative source control.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with PyTorch attention techniques for transformer models.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with LLVM, MLIR, and Triton compiler architecture.
  • Collaborative team skills and ability to learn quickly.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus 3+ years of experience; OR Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 2+ years of experience; OR PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with 0+ years of experience. Experience may be obtained via a combination of degree, research, relevant job experience, or internships.
