Trainee — Electronic Design Automation (Microelectronics)

Role Summary

The EDA Trainee will learn and support development and verification of design kits and CAD flows for CMOS, RFCMOS and BiCMOS processes. The position is based in Sofia within the Design and Technology Enablement / EDA teams and prepares students to work as CAD engineers.

Part-time (20 h/week), program duration 1–1.5 years; monthly scholarship provided; on-site role in Sofia.

Experience Level

Entry-level / trainee. Intended for current students or early-career candidates; no senior experience required.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities for the trainee include:

• Assist development and verification of process design kits (PDKs) and associated design flows.
• Learn and apply commercial EDA tools and CAD workflows used for IC design and manufacturing.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and small tools (e.g., Python, TCL, Perl).
• Support circuit simulation, verification and testing activities.
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams and document results and procedures.

Requirements

Key skills and qualifications:

• Must-have: Good knowledge of electronic devices and semiconductor theory.
• Must-have: Programming experience in one or more of C/C++, Python, Perl, or TCL.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with CAD systems (Cadence IC, OrCAD, Protel or similar).
• Nice-to-have: Experience with circuit simulators (PSpice) or mathematical software (MATLAB, Mathematica).
• Ability to commit ~20 hours per week aligned with university schedule.

Education Requirements

Active student in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Automation or a related technical field (undergraduate or master’s level). Equivalent technical background may be considered.
